The riding club is called 'Kinder- und Jugend Reit- und Fahrverein Zehlendorf e.V.' and it is situated at Berlin-Zehlendorf. Since the formation of the riding club (in 1988) the main idea is to enable children and young people from different social stratum with or without disability to learn how to ride a horse for very small money.

Since 1990 the Club was awarded for the best youth work and we also won this year the competition “Sterne des Sports” in Berlin. The aim is to offer a place for horse enthused children and young people. It is also important for children from a city to have a fulltime recreational place and contact with animals. Here they can find friends, make sports and learn how to assume responsibility for the animals. It is self-evident for the kids to take care of the horse and to clean the paddock.

The horse is a living creature, friend and sports fellow and not a piece of sports equipment. To work with the animals, to take care of them and to train them, is the best to get responsibility and self-confidence. It also trains the coordinative movements. In our days this enables a good health in which the children get more and more immobile.

That is the reason the club is a place for mental and physical education and promotion for young people. The club is only supported by club membership which only covers up the actual-cost for the club (lease, electricity, water, food, personnel costs). Regularly there are more bills to pay e.g. blacksmith, veterinarian, and modernization of the premises, mist removal etc. for which we desperately need more money.

  Ich kenne die Projektverantwortliche, Angelika Rose, seitdem sie 12 Jahre alte war und als Babysitter für unsere Kinder gearbeitet hat. Seitdem ist sie mit uns eng verbunden und so habe ich über die letzten Jahre auch ihre Arbeit für den Reitverein beobachten können. Ihr Engagement überzeugt mich.

  ich war heute auf dem Reiterhof und bin zum erstenmal auf Lucky geritten.
  Lucky ist ein hübsches braunes Pony, es bleibt aber auch mal stehen und macht was es nicht soll. Auf dem Reiterhof ist es sehr schön. Es gibt Pferde, große und kleine, Esel, Schweine, Hunde und Katzen. Wir sind immer draußen mit den Pferden
  Ich finde, dass die Lehrerrinnen, sehr nett und lustig sind. Besonders gut gefällt mir gemeinsam mit den anderen Kindern zu reiten. Trab kann ich schon ganz gut auch das Putzen der Pferde mach ich gerne. Heute haben wir Glück gehabt, denn es hat nicht geregnet als wir reiten waren . Das ist wichtig, weil der Reithof keine Halle hat und wir immer draußen sind. Es macht nichts, wenn es kalt ist . Bei Regen wäre ein Dach super. Weil wir naß werden bei Regen und der Boden ganz matschig ist.
  Letzte Woche war ich auf dem Geburtstag von Madame Nou, sie ist 45 Jahre alt geworden, und das älteste Pony in Deutschland ! Für Madame Nou gab es einen eine großen Geburtstagskuchen und die Kinder haben auch Kuchen aber anderen bekommen. Bei der Tombola hab ich noch eine Striegelbürste gewonnen, da hab ich mich sehr gefreut. Ich wünsche mir, dass alle Pferde gesund bleiben und immer genug zu essen haben. Heute hab ich Karotten für mein Pferd mit gebracht. Ich freue mich auf morgen und die ganze Woche, es sind Ferien mit den Kindern und den Pferden auf der Koppel zu sein.
