Adolescent Girls Empowerment Project is Child Aid Uganda’s initiative developed as a result of a study by developmental partners mapping out interventions for AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children in Rakai and Lyantonde districts Uganda in 2007.
The study revealed that girls are very vulnerable to HIV and AIDS either being infected or as orphans forcing them to drop out of school and fall prey to evil men. There is high orphan prevalence rate. There are many cases of early unwanted pregnancies, many forced early marriages, high cases of cross generational sex, domestic violence and deteriorating levels of discipline at household and individual levels. The study also revealed an increased number of orphans who are out of school due to lack of school fees and other scholastic materials. They therefore need to be educated and empowered to make informed decisions and start income generating activities.
Our projects aim to provide training for adolescent girls to empower them to make their own choices in life. With the skills to earn their own living, the girls will be free of the bonds that presently make them vulnerable to the demands currently made upon them.
Providing training in tailoring skills for two girls will give them the opportunity to find employment and earn their own living benefiting themselves and their immediate families.
By donating to this project you will help the girls to gain confidence and independence that will bring with them hope for a more prosperous future. Success for an individual brings with it advantages for their family and friends too.
