Did you know …
… that 20 % of the global increase in the amount of CO2 that the atmosphere contains is the result of the destruction of the rainforests?
… that each minute, 30 hectares of tropical forest are being destroyed somewhere in the world?

OroVerde supports the Sierra del Lacandón National Park in Guatemala. The park is part of the largest rainforest areas in Central America and, with its rare old growth forests, is among the 25 biodiversity hotspots in the world.

Jointly with local small farmers and partner organizations, OroVerde develops concepts serving to protect the national park.

Project Objective:
Protect the unique subtropical rainforest in the Sierra del Lacandón National Park;
Reforest the areas of the forest that have been destroyed.

Project Measures:
Reforest clear-cut areas;
Protect the forest by means of an intensive cooperation with the local population (set up firebreaks, environmental education);
Institute alternative sources of income so that the villages do not extend into the forest while ensuring the survival/income of the residents nonetheless.

€ 10 enable us to plant ten trees! (This includes the care during the first three years so that the saplings are not directly overgrown by climbers.)
We only need € 100 to maintain one hectare of original subtropical rainforest in Guatemala and to develop sustainable sources of income for the population.
